Ministry of Education and sports in Conjunction with BTC launch 5 partner VTI Business plans and SDF at Kalya Courts-Fort portal
The Ministry of Education andSports in conjunction with the Belgium Technical Corporation(BTC)-Uganda yesterday launched 5 Partner Vocational and TechnicalInstitute Bossiness Plans and Skills development Fund (SDF) at Kalyacourts in Fort Portal Kabarole district. The 5 Partner Business plansare being piloted in the Ruwenzori region with an aim to supportskills development demands for the private sector in the Oil and gassector.
While launching the skillsdevelopment fund the Director of Higher Education Vocational andTechnical Training Robert Ochieng who represented the PermanentSecretary said that Ugandan graduates remain competitive in the worldalthough the country lack skills from the technicians and partlybecause something went wrong.
Ochieng emphasized that thetrainees are still poor performers who are recruited for training andthe problem of School absenteeismaffect the products and the issue of quality education has beenaffected. Whereas graduates are meant to design items and techniciansproduce them it is not the case for Uganda.
He hailed the Kingdom ofBelgium for supporting this very important intervention in addressingthe 10 year BTVET skills strategic plan goals among others. Todaymarks a milestone in the ministry’s take off to implement the longawaited demands of the Ugandan unemployed youth needs of skillstraining.
He also said that thisintervention is going to bridge the gap between school and place ofwork.
